The 2nd Annual SDM Live Awards highlighted the best artists and entrepreneurs in Detroit’s entertainment industry. The event brought a variety of local artist together, not only exhibiting their musical talents but also setting the scene. The ambiance of the room was surrounded with love, support, and an overwhelming amount of electrifying emotion from the group of onlookers and all musicians and producers alike. Let me tell you about my wonderful experience at this year’s 2018 SDM Live Awards.
The 2nd annual 2018 SDM Live Awards was hosted by the fabulous Bunnie Mae. She put the audience at ease as she displayed her comfortability within herself while maintaining a strong sense of stage presence. This gave the audience a great experience as Bunnie Mae opens up the award ceremony with high levels of energy and laughter, creating a fun-filled occasion throughout the entire evening. Hip-Hop artist, Yovng Rah graces the stage with two singles that stimulated the crowd to get on their feet as they mirrored his movements. His performance increased the momentum on stage to set the tone for the night. Next up to hit the stage, we have LeAndre Harris. One of the three winners from the SDM Live showcase that was held in late June. With a phenomenal choreography thanks to Jarell Gordy, LeAndre performed two impetus tracks. A Rap song and a sensual, seductive R&B single while being accompanied by his two beautiful backup dancers, Kaylah and Princess Lynn. The pair compelled the crowd with their erotic sway. Next up to bless the stage, we have Singer Reign, whose voice was raspy, yet engaging. Reign’s vocals gave familiarity to my ears with a voice that I haven’t heard in quite some time. Reign gave me a lasting impression, leaving me with the desire to search for her music in the future. The last two winners from the SDM Live Showcase were Jade Judo and K. Fire. Judo performed her new single, Thinkin’ Bout You featuring Yovng Rah from her upcoming EP, The Jade Wave. The duo put on a well-breaded performance, exercising the control over the stage and crowd with their euphonious chemistry. K. Fire steps to the stage with some heat with her harmonious, dogmatic bars with a track from her debut EP titled Pray, Grind, Hustle. She also performed a new song titled Victory for the first time live, engaging the audience even more after her first performance. Alise King entered the stage with a performance that deserved a standing ovation with an encore. King’s ardent vocals were fiercely soulful and breathtaking. When Alise King sang, the entire room was silent and kept the audiences full attention. Lastly, we have Team Money Hungry, who came prepared to tear the stage apart. Team Money Hungry’s Woodrow dominated the stage with an enormous amount of energy as his dreads flew from one direction to the next, with their single Triple Double.
Special thanks to Swifty McVay, one of the founding members from the iconic rap group, D12. McVay received the Motown Award for his major contribution in music over the course of his impactful career in Detriot. The evening progressed with other amazing performances from Kwa Mandisa, Pistol P, Boom, Young Zeek, Crack Baby 313, I.C.E., and Dion Price. The second annual SDM Live Awards presented great performances, awards, cash giveaways, vendors, and of course networking. Special shout out to Donele “Casino” Bailey and Sheree Cheraee Cranford for creating a great night and accepting me to be a part of the SDM Live family these past two years. My gratitude isn’t enough, thank you. If you were unable to attend this splendid black tie occasion, not only did you miss some of the great talents the city of Detroit has to offer, but you neglected the opportunity to elevate and grow with us as a family. No need to fret, the 2018 SDM Live Awards made a huge impact for all and next year’s award ceremony will be even bigger and better!
