The Ten Best R&B Songs to Fall In Love to This Valentine’s Day

It’s February 14th so you already know what time it is, it’s Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air so what better a day to release the ten best R&B songs to fall in love to? Slow Jams, early 2000’s hits, and 90’s tracks are all listed here so without further ado, let’s get into these baby making hits!

chris brown

10. “Yo (Excuse Me Miss) “

Artist: Chris Brown

Album: “Chris Brown”

Admittedly, I’m not the biggest Chris Brown fan, never have been and likely never will be but I’d be lying if I said his first single from his debut album isn’t a classic. Smooth and melodic, Brown perfectly crafted old school slow jam elements with modern sounds to have skating rinks lit for every Saturday night in middle school.

9. Best Part Feat. Her

Artist: Daniel Caesar

Album: Freudian

Easily one of the most intimate love songs to be released in 2017, the song was so beautifully performed and written it sounded like a love letter instead of a song. Her’s vocals fits the tone of track perfectly and the lyrics would honestly fit perfectly as wedding vows. “You’re the coffee that I need in the morning, You’re my sunshine in the rain when it’s pouring” and “You’re my water when i’m stuck in the desert, you’re the Tylenol I take when my head hurts” are intricate lyrics that will certainly stay with every Valentines day from now until eternity.

8. One in a Million

Artist: Aaliyah

Album: One in a Million

One in a Million is one of the greatest R&B records of all time and is quite possibly the greatest song that legendary producer Timbaland has ever produced. Listening to this track today is a sad reminder of what Aaliyah could’ve been. Sadly her career was cut short in the tragic plane crashed which killed her and everyone on board with instant impact in 2001.

7. You don’t know my name

Artist: Alicia Keys

Album: The Diary of Alicia Keys

You can call my good sis “thirsty” all you want for the voicemail she left in this classic early 2000’s record, women who are willing to shoot their shot first deserve all the blessings in the world and that’s just the way it is! Keys’ vocals on this song were heavenly fully cementing herself as one of the premier female artists of the early 2000’s.

6. Until the End of Time

Artist: Justin Timberlake

Album: FutureSex/LoveSounds

This next entry may come as a surprise but here it is anyway! I debated with myself whether to include the original or the remix with Queen B but ultimately I chose to stick with the original. My man JT has hits for days, you all will accept this and get over the Janet Jackson fiasco from 2004. Deal with it.

5. Remember the Time

Artist: Michael Jackson

Album: Dangerous

I guess this isn’t technically  a song about falling in love, more so a song about a guy trying to make his old flame remember the old times they had but I don’t care, Its my list so its here. This is probably my favorite Michael Jackson record ever and the video features easily one of the greatest choreographed dance routines ever. Michael is truly the GOAT.

maxwell fortunate

4. Fortunate

Artist: Maxwell

Album: Life Soundtrack

Fortunate is the greatest song ever released for a movies soundtrack, and I say this with no disrespect to Eminem and Three Six Mafia but THIS record is the best to me. I’ve long decided this is the song I’ll dedicate to wife that day I get married. Maxwell proved his legendary status with this 1999 track right at the height of his powers. Such a great artist with a underrated track record.

3. Forever My Lady

Artist: Jodeci

Album: Jodeci

Jodeci is hands down the best R&B group ever and this record right here is probably the greatest track they’ve ever graced us with. Forever my Lady is the perfect 90’s song, by the perfect 90’s group, in a perfect era for the R&B genre. Truly a perfect track.

2. Love You More

Artist: Ginuwine

Album: The Senior

Ginuwine is one of the most underappreciated artists in the genre. His run as a solo artist in the mid 90’s to the mid 2000’s featured hits, hits, and more HITS. Love You More may not be one of his hits but it’s definitely one of his more intimate songs which perfectly sets the mood for Valentines Day with that special someone.

keith sweat1. Nooooooooooboooody

Artist: Keith Sweat

Album: Keith Sweat

Hands down one of the best songs to sing along with your boo in the car is the 1996 classic featuring Athena Cage. I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard a song that better captures the very essence of 90’s slow jams then this song does. Keith Sweat delivered the very definition of a timeless song when he dropped this over 20 years ago.

Happy Valentines day Folks!
