“Running To The Sun” Music Review

Kicking off her Trip tour in Detroit, MI, with her second studio album, Jhené Aiko recruited three R&B groups to set the tone of the concert. Roc Nation’s contemporary R&B artist, Willow Smith, and one of the hottest DJ’s and vocalist from Brooklyn, Kitty Cash. In doing so, they all delivered a finely-calibrated, passionate performance, ending with Jhené Aiko’s illustrative, in depth visual perspective of Penny, as she ventures off to start her journey. But there was one performance that not only introduced my ears to new music, but caught my attention with their stage presence, rhythm and lyrical vocals.  The high-powered R&B duo, St. Beauty delighted us listeners with their debut EP, Running To The Sun.

Running to The Sun provides insight on what occurs when concluding a relationship; mentally re-evaluating yourself to start anew, locating and developing confidence in one’s self to execute it towards your goals, and simply having the overall meaning of love. The production is utterly amazing thanks to Rafa Pereira and Tribo Records. Fusing Alex Belle’s vocal melodies along Isis Valentino’s chordal progression with her minimalistic guitar and bass playing creates an all-around comforting, yet emotive mixture of funk, soulful rhythm & blues, and pop which is greatly mixed. Tracks such as Not Discuss It, Borders, and Lucid Dreams showcase Alex Belle’s lead vocals, which provide a ghostly melody that lingers in a heartful manor. While other tracks such as Caught, Colors and Tides featuring Deanté Hitchcock offers listeners a more upbeat and shoulder swaying vibe. These tracks also display Isis Valentino offering her soothing vocals, adding to her incredible flair for guitar. Following St. Beauty on Tides, Deanté Hitchcock’s delivery was strongly asserted. Matching great wordplay, and clever lyrics, his verse stiffens the plot for Tides, constructing this track to be a fan favorite for all you rap fanatics. With Ten tracks including seven songs, two humbling interludes and one dope feature, Running To The Sun is soulfully angelic and blissfully riveting.  Check out St. Beauty’s debut EP Running To The Sun on all digital streaming services!

But There’s One Thing That Will Always Remain. It’s That Silly Thing You Do. It’s Your Smile That Is So True. It’s Your Courage, It’s Your You. It’s The Love That Lives Inside Of You
