HE’s BACK and this time around, Zaire Williams is ready to take on the competition at the next level. The NFL. Some of you are probably wondering who Zaire Williams even is and why his return is so special. Well, Zaire Williams is from a small city in New Jersey called Sicklerville, where he attended first attend Cherokee before he transferred to 20121208-SJ-Group4-Football-a0287Timber Creek High School. Coming out of high school as a 3-star recruit, he had offer such as West Virginia, Wisconsin, Iowa, Pitt, Purdue, and more. He eventually made his decision and committed to Temple University, where he began his long and interesting college journey. As a true-freshman as an Owl, he rushed for a total of 533 yards on 101 carries which marked him down at number three on the all-time freshman rushing list behind Bernard Pierce and Paul Palmer. Averaging 5.3 yards/carry and totaling 3 TD’s. The young star also received an honorable mention as All-Freshman Team by College Football News and 2013 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. Just like any college-athlete, Williams completed one season and once it ended he was ready to go back for more.

In 2014, Zaire Williams played in the season opener against Vanderbilt, where he rushed for only 17 yards with 7 carries. Unfortunately, these are all the yards he could get for the rest 040515_zaire-williams_600of the season due to a surprise in the career. An MRI showed that the Temple RB had a bulging disc in his back and he was ruled out indefinitely. His team and fans thought this was it for Zaire. Obviously he has a different vision of how this would turnout. He sat out for the remainder of the season and cheered on his brothers as he watched from the sidelines. Once he had season two under his belt, he was ready to make his return as a junior. Only this time, it wasn’t the same Williams. After participating in the preseason, he and his coaches at Temple felt it was time for a change so he was moved from running back to linebacker. After some time, Williams didn’t think this was enough so he “asked to leave the team”. This was it for his in the white and cherry uniform.1005937_880303-3804092Umainefootb7

After his time playing under Head Coach Matt Rhule at Temple University, Williams transferred to the University of Maine where he only stayed for one year. He played in 8 games in 2016 and rushed for 302 yards, 75 carries, and 1 touchdown. His 5 total receiving yards weren’t as impressive as the 11 receptions and 128 receiving yards at Temple, but he improved after he transferred to Westminster College for his senior season. His 2 receptions for 5 yards at Maine improved to 6 receptions for 48 yards.

That’s 3 colleges in 4 years for Zaire Williams, its unusual for a college athlete but this isCapture exactly what makes his and his story stand out. His college days are officially over and the running back has officially entered the NFL draft.

With the right team, Zaire Williams could be a serious weapon if used right. I don’t see him being the rookie that starts immediately, but I do believe that he will be an immediate impact player. It’s possible that he may even go undrafted. Good thing he’s always been underrated. He knows how to keep pushing for what he wants and keep his head up through tough times. Its the dog in him.
