“That Rihanna Reign just won’t let up,” she said on her thirteenth top ten single on the US Billboard Hot 100 track, “Hard” back in 2009. After recently being honored on February 28th the Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year Award, Miss Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty is marking another milestone in her record-breaking career. Some say, she’s just a pretty face and she’s only hot for the moment. But Rihanna has been killing the industry with not only music, acting, and modeling, but with fashion as well. I’ve seen “fifteen minutes of fame” and it looks nothing like this. It is time to give credit where it is due, and Rihanna is well-overdue of hers.
Why is Rihanna being honored by Parsons you ask? “She has inspired millions through her powerful music and distinct style,” said Joel Towers, the school’s executive dean, in his statement to The Cult. Towers also went on to say, “She has championed our recent alumni on a number of occasions by wearing their designs. She is also creating important philanthropic programs, which support communities by fostering effective education, health, and emergency response programs around the world through her Clara Lionel Foundation.”
Rihanna promoted Parsons School of Design when she wore a piece by one of their most recent graduates, who goes by the name of Matthew Adams Dolan. It was during the beginning of the era for her eight album “Anti” Please see the picture below.
Rihanna also wore Melody Ya Jun Lin, another graduate from Parsons School of Design, during one out of four of her phenomenal performances during the 2016 MTV VMAs, where she was honored the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Please see the picture below.
Rihanna is always giving back to her community and honoring those around her. She has a heart of gold, and she never brag about her accomplishments. She doesn’t do things for attention, she does it out of the love in her heart. So when she’s honored for truly being herself, she is always humble and shows gratitude. “It’s such a thrill to know that a design school as prestigious as Parsons School of Design would present me with this honor. I consistently find creative and exciting designs coming from Parsons alumni, so I feel a deep connection to the school,” said Rihanna. “But I am especially grateful that Parsons would recognize me for the work I’ve done in regards to philanthropy.”
Rihanna will be honored at the 69th annual benefit on May 22 at Pier 60 in NYC. Congratulations AGAIN, Rihanna!
