The newest member of J. Cole’s record label, Dreamville, delivers an inside approach growing up in East Atlanta, Georgia. Surrounded with the struggle and being able to see the beauty within it. J.I.D. Achieves dominate lyrical success by telling us his story on his Debut LP “The Never Story”. “The Never Story” gives the perspective of the young Emcee growing and dealing with his family, focusing on the positive by staying out of any legal trouble, finding alternatives to accumulate an abundance of the money, and being associated with women who don’t understand that hard work comes first. The production was very midtempo and moody, yet raw and relentless. Shout out to Childish Major, J. Cole, Christo, and Sean McVerry (etc.) for that amazing production. J.I.D.’s poetic lyricism captivates the audience by inviting these unique sounds to correspond with his lyrics and vocals. Tracks like “Hereditary” & “All Bad” featuring Marian Mereba depict another side of the Emcee, showing his vocal skills as he harmonizes over a subtle, mellow, low tempo beat from Tha Offcialz and Hollywood JB. Of course J.I.D.’s “The Never Story” blessed listeners with refined lyrics of dedication with a great storyline adding to his groundbreaking punchlines and wordplay, I can literally hear the hunger in his voice on his debut LP. The track “Lauder” of course came with a dope snippet and video as J.I.D. rides shotgun through his neighborhood, along side J. Cole, in J.I.D.’s Pontiac. Alerting listeners of what’s in store for them when it comes to societies tympanic membranes. Such talent in the young Emcee, and I myself can’t wait until I hear more from this music artist.
