Thousands of college basketball fan’s brackets were probably destroyed Sunday night after the South Carolina Gamecocks upset the number 2 seed Duke Blue Devils.
This year’s March Madness has not been full of exciting upsets, unless you want to count #12 Middle Tennessee State beating #5 Minnesota. However, Sunday night in Greenville, SC, history was made. The University of South Carolina Gamecocks crushed the Duke Blue Devils in an electrifying 88-81 upset, making this USC’s first ever sweet 16 appearance.
The Bon Secours Wellness Arena was filled with garnet and black Sunday night as the Gamecocks fought their way to a well-deserved victory. They were led by the three seniors: Sindarius Thornwell, Duane Notice, and Justin McKie. The Gamecocks scored 65 points in the final 20 minutes of the game and held the Blue Devils to just 51 points in the second half with their cut throat defense.
This is surprising of course, because Duke was the favorite to win the national championship, but they were no match for the determined Gamecocks. Is this a Cinderalla story in the making? Watch and see Friday, March 24, at 7:29p.m. Eastern on TBS as the Gamecocks continue on their history making journey against Baylor at Madison Square Garden.
