Drake Explains What Happened To Jay Z And Kanye’s Verse On ‘Pop Style’

Whether you are or aren’t a Drake fan, I can most definitely bet you’ve heard Drake’s album Views.  The album was released April 29th of last year selling 825,000 copies in its first week and spent 13 non-consecutive weeks at number one. Views is the first album to reach 1 billion streams on Apple Music and has currently been certified 4x platinum. The album hold numerous catchy tunes and hits; one that stood-out as a fan favorite is a track titled ‘Pop Style’. It has been said by Kanye during The Saint Pablo Tour that he and Jay Z were originally supposed to be on the song, but some difficulties came in to play.

Drake did an interview with Beats 1’s OVO Sound Radio, which is getting a lot of buzz due to the topic of discussions that were held. One of the topics that stood out most was when interviewer asked Drizzy what happened to the verses that were supposed to be on that particular song. Drizzy addressed it by saying, “I was dealing directly with Ye, and that’s the version that he sent me and that was what we talked about. He was like ‘Man this is like Pop Style featuring The Throne, this is huge.’ and I was excited. You know, obviously anybody would be excited to see them link back up, and I didn’t know what I was gonna hear so when I heard like, Jay had two bars I was like alright, I mean it is what it is. It’s cool I like that intro and then Kanye goes off. And then… I’m not really sure the details of how that conversation was miss-communicated or what they were going through at the time, or what anybody felt towards me, or whatever it was I’m not really sure. But next thing I knew it just became a little bit of an issue.” Drake then went on to say, “I don’t waste too much time, so I just was like alright, cool I’ll finish it. I can rap just as good as anybody else so I’ll just go finish the song and put-forth my own version… nobody could ever dangle anything over my head in this business, I don’t play that.”

Drake says that both versions of the song do truly exist, and whenever Kanye chooses to perform the song on tour he is okay with it because the fans go crazy over it. Drake also explained that him and Kanye were working together a lot during that time and he really wanted to be a part of the record, and that’s how it came about. Sounds like they have other music in the vault we might not ever get a chance to hear. Who knows? Only time will tell.
